As the UK’s leading innovator and supplier of building products, we understand that brickwork contractors are busy. That’s why at Grayson, we’ve created a one-stop shop for your essentials, including head restraints and fixings.
Adjustable Head Restraint (AHR)
With our extensive range of head restraints, you can provide lateral restraint for internal block walls or cavity walls.
Head restraints are used at the top of a wall and are firmly fixed to the steelwork or concrete slab. The foot is then bedded into the horizontal mortar joint to provide a lateral restraint.
The design of the AHR allows vertical movement to take place between the blockwork and the structure (which accommodates material expansion that can occur post-construction). Our AHR gives a movement joint of up to 25mm.
The AHR is suitable for a standard 215mm block and will resist lateral loads up to 1.5kN. With two different slot sizes to choose from (7mm or 10mm), you can firmly fix the AHR using:
- a stainless through bolt (for concrete)
- a tek screw or isolated bolt and nut (for steelwork).
Soffit Restraint
An alternative to the AHR is the Soffit Restraint, which similarly restrains the head of an internal wall or inner leaf of a cavity wall.
However, the Soffit Restraint can restrain blocks ranging from 100mm to 215mm thick.
The Soffit Restraint clamps around the top of the block and has a load capacity of 1kN.
To fix the Soffit Restraint into the underside of the structure, you need to use:
- an M8 stainless steel through bolt (for concrete)
- an isolated M8 bolt and nut (for steelwork).
At Grayson, we supply all the above and much more. Order your AHRs, Soffit Restraints and relevant fixings now.
