Cold bridging is fast becoming a hot topic. Demand for thermal breaking products has never been higher. However, to date the only thermal shims available for masonry support are far too thin and ineffective to offer any real reduction in thermal heat loss. Thermal modelling and hot box testing demonstrated that even with high-performance materials a minimum thickness of 5mm was required, but often 10mm was necessary. Therefore, this month Grayson are launching their new range of high-performance structural thermal break solutions for masonry support systems.
Grayson GST thermal shims are designed and tested to minimise heat loss through cold-bridging and improve the overall energy efficiency of construction projects. They are proven to be extremely effective on both concrete and steel-framed structures.
Offering up to 50% more thermal effectivity than traditional thermal break products for masonry support systems, the GST range offers specifiers unrivalled resistance to cold-bridging. GST shims offer nearly ninety-times less thermal conductivity than stainless steel, whilst delivering the 84.4 N/mm2 compressive strength required for structural shims; ensuring no reduction in clamping force.
In addition, GST shims are designed and developed to guarantee zero moisture absorption, therefore safeguarding their continuous thermal performance throughout their sixty-year design life.
